Summary of Punta Cana

So, if you’ve googled Punta Cana you know it looks amazing right? Long beaches, clear blue water, perfect weather and palm trees. A dream get-away. But, what an image feed won’t show you, is just how touristic it is. Now, I didn’t know anything about this place before I came, I just saw how beautiful it looked and figured I wanted to explore it. Not to self; do some research.

Today is my last day here, this afternoon I’m taking my backpack and heading to my next destination, Mexico! I’ve had some nice days here, the weather has been good, I’ve gotten a nice tan and the beach is beautiful. Just as I had thought. But, it is crazy touristy, like insanely touristy!

It’s packed with nice hotels and luxury resorts, huge parts of the beach is divided and belonging to different hotels and there really isn’t much to do here, besides lye on the beach. The hotel areas are huge and gated, to get in you either have to live there or pay expensive day passes. If you don’t live in one of those hotels, like me, there really isn’t much to do, except hang maybe take tours, also super touristy. Walking around all I’ve seen are restaurants and hotels, I’m sure there are different areas of Punta Cana and I can be wrong, this was just my experience. If I had I car and could get around easier maybe it would have been better and I could have explored different areas.

Anyways, if you want to relax by a beautiful beach and spend some time at a nice resort that will have most things fixed for you, this is a beautiful place. If you want to explore on your own, not spend time with other tourists or not spend a lot of money on all-inclusive hotels, maybe re-think your vacation plans.

Just came across your site! Love it. AND I kind of always wondered how touristy it was. Ive been wanting to go but feel as though it will just be another beautiful beach over run by selfie sticks and people in speedo’s. Sadly, I feel like most of the place’s Ive been recently is over run by tourists! I’m writing a post now on why a week in Paris was wayyyy too long. Talk about a let down. Thanks for sharing and look forward to reading more! You seem to have the kind of honest opinions that I have which I love so keep up the good work! Check out my blog if you get a chance! xo

Thank you! Yeah I found Punta Cana VERY touristy, probably won’t go back, there are plenty of other places I’d rather go! There weren’t really anything to do outside the all-inclusive hotel resorts, I wasn’t staying in one, so there wasn’t much to do and it was difficult even getting access to the beach, as it was all part of the resorts. If you don’t want to stay in a big all-inclusive hotel with lots of tourists, I would go somewhere else.
