6 films to inspire solo travel

Taking off on a solo adventure around the world can be a scary challenge, but a completely rewarding endeavor to embark on. Even though there will be ongoing trials and challenges along the way, and you’ll find yourself wondering if you’re even doing the right thing at all, it’s still worth it! If you’ve ever had the slight urge to pack a bag and head out exploring, you should give it a chance. Here are six films to spark the wanderlust and inspire you to head out on that solo adventure!


Tracks (2013)

This is an incredible film about an incredible story. It’s the story of a young Australian girl who walks from Alice Springs to the Australian ocean accompanied by just her dog and four camels. A truly inspiring film for girls who want to see what we can accomplish when we put our minds to it!


Into the Wild (2007)

Christopher is the son of two wealthy parents, and decides to rid himself of his former life and set off for an adventure in the Alaskan wilderness. He sells his things, packs what he has left and hits the open road for an inspiring solo adventure!


Eat, Pray, Love (2010)

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen this movie by now, but I do know I will see it again. Even if you haven’t seen the film or read the book, you definitely have heard about it! Eat Pray Love is the inspiring story of Liz, a middle-aged woman who leaves her life in the US for a year in Italy, India, and Bali. On her solo adventures she literally eats her way through Italy, spends time praying in India, and finds love in Bali.


The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

This film tells the typical story of a man working a monotonous job, and is looking to branch out and actually live his life. Its a lot of fun and takes you to some great destinations!

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

If you’re looking for a movie that will strike up your wanderlust and quash any doubts you may have had about going solo, you just found it. Simply pop some popcorn and join two friends on their travel from Brazil to Peru by motorcycle. Although this slightly falls outside of solo travel, as the main character is joined by his friend, it still needs to be on this list.


Wild (2014)

Wild tells the story of a middle-aged woman in emotional pain, who makes the bold decision to walk the Pacific Crest Trail – one of the most challenging hikes in the US. With no prior experience, she decides to challenge herself and do it anyway.
