Fall is the perfect time to travel! If you want to avoid the summer madness, the crazy heatwaves, the overpriced and overbooked places, and all the other tourist messing up your travel photos, make plans for a fall getaway. The weather is cooler, the prices are (often) more reasonable, it’s less crowded, and it’s the perfect break from everyday life. If you’re craving a little getaway, a break between summer vacation and Christmas holiday (‘cuz let’s face it, who isn’t?), here are 15 great destinations perfect for a long weekend away!

New York

A very popular destination for a long weekend, get a late flight out, spend some days exploring the city that never sleeps, and get your travel fix taken care of! If you’re lucky and do some research you can get great prices for a round trip to New York!

Vienna

Central Europe is filled with hidden gems, and Vienna is definitely one of them. This beautiful capital makes for a perfect weekend getaway, explore Vienna’s beautiful architecture, try an apple strudel, view the impressive art collections, and see St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

Berlin

Artsy, hip, popular, and in the center of Europe. Prices for flights are very reasonable, you can get some cheap hostel or hotel for a few nights, and there’s plenty to discover! I went to Berlin for a four-day getaway in 2014 with some friends, and even though you can easily spend more than a long weekend here, it’s plenty for a first introduction to the city!

Budapest

The capital of Hungary is such a beautiful city and has plenty to offer! Get the best view of the city from Fisherman’s Bastion, Go Shopping on Andrassy Street, Step Inside Gresham Palace, discover the famous hot thermal springs, or Cruise along the Danube River at Night!

Venice

September is really the prime time to visit this beautiful city! Tourists start packing up, and festival season is kicking off, it’s the best time to visit. The Venice Film Festival takes place early September, or check out Venice’s biggest gondola race, Regata Storica.
